“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” – Corrie Ten Boom
How do you Feel About the New Year?
For many of us, January is a mix of excitement and uncertainty. We look ahead with hope for fresh beginnings, but we also feel the weight of the unknown. Will this year bring breakthroughs or challenges? Success or struggle?
Personally, I love this season because it reminds me of the excitement of starting anew. It’s a time to pause, seek God in prayer, and align my heart with His purposes. I often ask Him for fresh direction and renewed vision for the path ahead. But I also remind myself that the true joy of the journey isn’t found in accomplishing goals or chasing blessings – it’s found in walking with God and enjoying His presence.
Joshua’s Call to Trust God
Like many of us, I’ve faced new seasons with anticipation and hesitation. In these moments, I draw encouragement from the story of Joshua – a man who faced one of the most significant transitions in biblical history. After Moses’ death, Joshua was called to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land – a responsibility that must have felt overwhelming. Like us, he faced uncertainties and challenges that required great courage. But God’s promise to Joshua is the same one He makes to us today:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
This wasn’t just a call to action – it was a call to trust. Joshua’s success wasn’t dependent on his own abilities but on his willingness to walk closely with God.
Walking with God in the New Year
From the very beginning, we were created to walk with God. The ultimate purpose of our lives isn’t just to accomplish great things but to enjoy His presence and partner with Him in fulfilling His will. This divine partnership is both exhilarating and humbling.
The adventure of walking with God often comes with a mix of excitement and fear. Like Joshua, we may feel overwhelmed by what lies ahead. But just as God reassured Joshua, He reassures us: His presence goes with us.
Courage for the Journey Ahead
As you step into this New Year, take a moment to reflect on how God is calling you to trust Him more deeply. Write down one area of your life where you feel uncertain or afraid, and ask God to guide you in that specific area. Pray for the courage to partner with Him and walk boldly into the adventure He has planned for you.
Remember, the promise of the New Year isn’t in having all the answers – it’s in knowing that God walks with you every step of the way.
As Charles Spurgeon once said, "Our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strengths.” Trust God to lead you through this New Year with courage and faith, knowing He is always with you.
Until next time, be strong and courageous in Christ!
